Happy Independence Day!
4th of July is my favorite holiday. It might have something to do with it being the week before my birthday (stay tuned for more about that later! *insert eyebrow wiggle*)
It’s such a nostalgic holiday. Growing up, for me, it was a day filled with family and church friends, an unbelievable amount of Memphis cooking, the smell of charcoal, and a trip out to Shelby Farms to watch the big firework show, soft quilts spread on the grass, sparklers and fireflies, car radio trumpeting patriotic tunes, and - Friends. Besties, Siblings, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles who aren't actually related, that sacred circle of tribe. Family.
What makes this holiday so nostalgic? Hint- it’s not the fireworks.
Connection.
It’s the connection forged with people that happened while engaging all the other senses.
The taste of delicious food, the enticing smell of the barbecue, the sight of mesmerizing fireworks, the sound of laughter and patriotic melodies, and the warm touch of summer air – these elements create lasting imprints on our minds and hearts, memories that endure a lifetime.
